Dua Lipa’s Stylist Gave Me a Vintage Makeover
Since my job entails tracking Dua Lipa’s highlights, I’ve been familiar with Lorenzo Posocco for a while. The stylish mind behind the British-Albanian pop star’s low-cut outfits, he’s worked with her for almost six years and has dressed her in such cool brands as Marine Serre, GCDS, Luar and Masha Popova.
Since Posocco and I have relatively little contact (I’ll text him to check the credit for Lipa’s looks) we finally decided to meet in person when he arrived in New York earlier this month. We’re going to break the ice by doing a Shopping with Vogue article in which we’ll visit a local hotspot and he’ll review the clothes racks. I decided to take him to the holy grail of the classic: James Veloria. If you want to know where all the trendy young things of New York (and their wages) are going, head to this vintage store on the second floor of a Chinatown mall. Posocco agreed to meet me here. But when we arrived, Posocco wasn’t necessarily interested in dressing myself but styling me.
Typically I’m not careful about my wardrobe. To be fair, I prefer a pair of trousers or a colorful shirt, but I’ve never really strayed from a straight silhouette or experimented with clashing prints. I loved the rich, casual look of Michael Kors’ Celine, obsessed with the Tom Ford-era Gucci sexy, and couldn’t get enough flirting, Stella McCartney’s Chloé. These have made up my uniform for quite some time and I have no intention of changing it. But how can I say no to Posocco?
Look 1
At first sight, Posocco dressed me in a dress that I would never wear, unless I was going to a funeral or to a synagogue — or both at the same time! He was attracted to a Comme des Garçons plaid long dress that was large and had a formal color scheme. I look like a rodeo darling. Then he tied a Vivienne Westwood plaid short-sleeved shirt to my vase. The stereotypical clash sent me through a loop, but Posocco had a plan. He kept saying, “very 90s Miu Miu”. Of course he is! Posocco falls in love with a western girl, especially when she’s in Miu Miu. After Lipa released her music video for “Love Again,” in which she dresses up as a chic farm girl, he continued the theme by putting her on his top check-top list. Miu Miu with some Daisy Dukes. I don’t wear any revealing shorts, but Posocco really fascinates me with accessories. He matched my outfit with a Perry Ellis belt, Balenciaga hips, and square Versus sunglasses. I feel like a humble but hot Orthodox, ready to play. Baruch hash.
Look 2
When Posocco dressed me, I felt like my brain was opened to styling options I never thought of. Posocco sees something I don’t, which is why he’s such a great stylist — not only with Lipa, but with so many clients, including Italian pop star Marco. Mengoni. “I love spending time with my clients and getting to know their personalities. “What do they like, what body type,” says Posocco. “I love bringing new ideas into the wardrobe. I love playing with them and empowering them in a different way. ”
My next look is equally cool. He picked a lime green Tom Ford for the Gucci polo I had my eye on and paired it with a pair of leopard print Moschino pants that worked wonders for me. On my head I wore a pastel pink Prada nylon hat, which he skillfully flipped the brim. Finally, I slip on a pair of blood-red leather Miu Miu heels with a black sock top. He rolled up my pants and voila, I’m Fran Drescher on the golf course.
